THOMAS PUGGARD-MÜLLER

(LEAD GUITAR) (LEAD GUITAR)

Thomas Puggaard-Müller was born on October 23rd 1948 in Denmark.

His early musical career included performing with Troels Jensen in a mid-60's folk duo, where together they performed at the famous ViseVersHus in Copenhagen's Trivoli Garden's.

In 1968, Thomas and Troels would go on to form the 'The Delta Blues and Boogie Band' (aka 'The Delta Blues Band') with brother Michael Puggaard-Müller and Søren Engel. The Delta Blues Band was a Copenhagen group who made one of the first Danish multi-track recorded rock albums, which was released by the Parlophone label in 1969. The following year in 1970, Thomas joined Pan along with brother Michael Puggaard-Müller.

After Pan's split in 1970, Thomas soon began working with Johnny Mørch of Denmark's 'Mørch Guitars' - www.morch-guitars.dk/. Thomas was responsible for designing Mørch's unique "curl" or "scroll" design upper cutaway model guitars, which were later published in the Danish Design Index and subsequently shown all over the world. Over the years, this design soon became a trademark of quality custom bass making, being adopted by American guitar maker Carl Thompson, and later influencing the design of the 'Ritter Okon', a collaboration of Jens Ritter and bassist Stefan Okon. Mørch Guitars were among the first to create varied and unusual guitars. Thomas was involved with Morch Guitars for several years.

After Pan, Thomas also began playing guitar with the Delta Blues Band, prior joining 'Culpeper's Orchard' from 1974 up until the band's split in 1982. With the demise of Culpeper's, Thomas took to joining his brother Michael's new group 'Survivors'. In 1976, Thomas also played guitar on Andrew John & Lissa's album "Louise... A Life Story". As of late, Thomas has recently played guitar on Peter Hard's debut album "Levende Billeder" released in February 2007.

After Survivors, Thomas started his own Guitar Repair shop and later also began a P.A. rental company that worked with numerous bands and artists until 1992. Since '92, Thomas has been working as a sound technician for the Concert and Congresshouse Falkoner Center in Copenhagen, Denmark. In February 2007, he played guitar on Peter Hard's debut album "Levende Billeder". As of 2008, Thomas is now playing shows here and there once again with Survivors (which also features brother Michael, Henning Verner, Jens Rugsted, and Roy Richards), and is also planning to open another guitar repair workshop once again.

From a recent February 2008 Q & A piece for this site, Thomas had this to say about his days in Pan:

"I think first of all, that the music was too original... so to speak, not commercial in Danish ears. Robert had some contacts in London who were interested, but somehow he was not keen enough, going after the ball, so to speak. To me his music was a great chance to play other things than blues and to play some very original music, which did not sound like anybody else. Also the record company did a very poor job of promoting the band. I think they had a lot of personal difficulties among themselves at that time. PAN was a great experience for me. I somehow grew from just being a blues guitar player (don't get me wrong: I love to play blues and music related to that, but the music world is just so much bigger and I would love to be a part of that too)."
